Kaufman Teaching Certificate Program:
As someone deeply passionate about teaching, I was delighted to participate in the Kaufman Teaching Certificate Program (KTCP) offered by MIT’s Teaching + Learning Lab. This semester-long program taught me how to develop effective teaching skills, focusing on the future classes I aspire to teach as a faculty member. We designed a unit of instruction and drafted a syllabus for our future teaching context. The program also included microteaching workshops where participants practiced and received feedback on their teaching.
Learning outcomes of the KTCP
- Use Backward Design: Plan a unit of instruction with specific, measurable, and student-centered learning outcomes, activities, and assessments.
- Implement Evidence-Based Strategies: Keep students engaged, assess the extent of their learning, and support them in achieving learning outcomes.
- Provide Feedback: Offer targeted, growth-oriented feedback.
- Reflect on Identities: Make curricular and pedagogical choices that foster a sense of belonging for all students.
- Develop Syllabus Components: Craft essential parts of a course syllabus.
